The family of a city dockyard worker who died of asbestos-related cancer are holding a high-profile public meeting to highlight the disease 'time bomb' in Plymouth.
The daughters and wife of electrical fitter Roger Lowe - who died of mesothelioma in December 2005 - have arranged the October 1 meeting as part of a campaign launched in his memory. Plymouth has been identified as the UK's fourth largest 'hotspot' for the disease, with 320 people dying from asbestos-caused mesothelioma between 1985 and 2004. Cases expected to peak between 2011 and 2015 as the condition takes between 30 to 40 years to emerge. Jackie Lowe, aged 35 of Brixton, Mr Lowe's daughter, said: "This meeting is going to be a big push to raise awareness and help build a supportive network for those who suffer from this awful disease."
